Definition

The Expected Community Engagement Quiz is an informal assessment to help you identify the kinds of community engagement behaviors you hope students will demonstrate.

Purpose and Goal

Having a sense of community in a course has been shown to improve student learning and satisfaction and to decrease feelings of isolation. It is easy to think that we want community in our classrooms, since its benefits are so clear. It is more difficult, however, to think through what we actually mean when we say we want community, particularly since community can look different in different contexts.

This quiz is intended to help you identify the behaviors that you think productive community members will exhibit, and maybe to identify some behaviors you had not previously considered. Knowing how important you believe different kinds of engagement behaviors are may help you better plan and support community in your classroom.
