The Communication Style Quiz is an informal 20-question quiz designed to help you identify your own communication “style.”
Purpose and Goal
When we hold class discussions, we often think about student communication roles, responsibilities, abilities and styles. We don’t typically think about our own participation in the discussion. Yet, who we are and how we typically communicate can shape the direction of the conversation. It’s a good idea to understand your communication preferences when using discussions as a pedagogical approach.
The goal of this activity is to increase awareness of your patterns of communication. When you are more conscious of your communication style, you can use the information to bolster your current style or to choose a different path going forward. By increasing your awareness of the way you typically communicate, you may be able to strengthen or modify your style so that you can more effectively facilitate student discussions.
