Definition

The Teaching Style Inventory is a self-reflection tool that encourages you to think through the tenets of your teaching style by asking you to consider whether you agree or disagree with certain teaching statements.

Purpose and Goal

Today’s college faculty face the ongoing challenge of meeting the diverse needs of their students while fostering an engaging and effective learning environment. However, many faculty members can struggle to identify their teaching style and understand its relationship to their own instructional choices and, in turn, to student learning outcomes. As a result, they may not fully leverage their strengths or address areas for improvement, hindering their ability to provide high-quality education.

Through the self-assessment prompted by this activity, you will better understand your instructional preferences and approaches. By acknowledging your own teaching style, you can take proactive steps to enhance your teaching effectiveness, experiment with new strategies, and continuously evolve as an educator. By engaging in this activity, you demonstrate a commitment to reflective teaching practices and a proactive approach to professional growth. The insights gained from the inventory can be used to inform your teaching philosophy statement, pedagogical development plans, and future self-assessments
