Definition
The Learning Goals Inventory (LGI) is a survey with four parts: Course Information, Learning Goals Rating Scale, Learning Goals Self-Assessment and Responder Characteristics.
Purpose and Goal
Sometimes, the hardest part of designing a course is figuring out where to start. Beginning with our learning goals is a good guiding principle. But how do we determine what our learning goals should be?
This Learning Goals Inventory is an abbreviated version of the full
Learning Goals Inventory (LGI; Barkley & Major, 2016). The purpose of this abbreviated version is to help you focus and articulate your goals for student learning in an individual course and to provide a starting point for discussions about teaching and learning goals with your colleagues. The LGI was inspired by the Teaching Goals Inventory developed by Angelo and Cross in 1993 to help teachers determine what students should learn in their courses.
