About this Activity Set

If you've not yet done so, watch the intro video for this activity set, Engaging Students.

Definition

In this Engagement Minute Paper, we invite you to consider a time when you’ve become fully engaged in an activity and then write a short one-minute response about it as you try to recollect what led to it, how it felt and the surrounding circumstances.

Purpose and Goal

Most of us know that engagement is critical to student learning and success. As teachers, we want students to be fully engaged, but what does that mean, and how do we help students achieve it? We can gain ideas by considering how we become fully engaged in an activity ourselves. But we don’t often have the time, energy or encouragement to do this reflection.

This activity prompts you to consider how you become deeply engaged in an activity so that you can better understand the concept of “flow” and gain insights on how to encourage it in your classrooms.
