About this Activity Set

If you've not yet done so, watch the intro video for this activity set, Supporting Community.

Definition

This Approximate Analogies prompt asks you to consider what community means to you and how you teach. It then asks you to reframe and rephrase your ideas as an analogy.

Purpose and Goal

Instructors know that creating and supporting community within their classrooms and programs is important: it’s better for students and educators, creates better discussion, and leads to better outcomes. We know it when we see it, but few instructors have time to consider what creating a supportive community means.

This activity prompts you to consider your views on community in the classroom and to dig deeper to understand how you can more intentionally create supportive communities in your classrooms.
