About this Activity Set

If you've not yet done so, watch the intro video for this activity set, Engaged Teaching - What It Is and Why It Matters.

Definition

A Teaching Philosophy Statement is a narrative in which you share your thoughts about teaching and learning. In this statement, you generally describe your conception of teaching and learning, provide a description of how you teach, and outline the rationale for why you choose to teach in this way.

Purpose and Goal

We don’t often take time to think about what’s deeply important to us as teachers or to question our values, beliefs, and practices.

Writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement can help you engage in teaching more purposefully, communicate instructional goals and corresponding actions to others, and provide evidence of engaged and effective teaching.
