Definition

The Learning Assessment Diagnostic is a 12-question multiple-choice quiz focused on various areas of learning assessment designed to help you identify gaps in your assessment-related knowledge base, increase your awareness of good assessment terms and practices, and identify areas for improvement.

Purpose and Goal

One of the most difficult challenges in teaching is determining how to assess student learning. To make good selections, it is helpful to know about the options. Yet few of us have received training in assessment design, and we lack the knowledge required to make informed choices. Many times, we don’t even know what we don’t know.

To help you gauge your knowledge of assessment, this diagnostic prompts you to consider two important questions:
  • How well do you understand important assessment terms, concepts and issues?
  • Do you know enough to be effective when choosing an assessment strategy to support student learning?
